High Purity Silicon Tetrachloride for Optical Fiber is a high-purity silicon chloride used in the manufacture of optical fiber preforms and high-purity quartz glass. Its chemical formula is SiCl?. At room temperature, it is a colorless, volatile liquid that hydrolyzes in water to produce hydrogen chloride. In processes such as MCVD, OVD, VAD, and PCVD, it forms high-purity silica glass through flame hydrolysis or chemical vapor deposition, which is used to construct the core layer, cladding, or quartz matrix of the optical fiber preform.

Compared to industrial-grade silicon tetrachloride, high-purity silicon tetrachloride for optical fiber requires higher total purity (typically 6N?9N or higher) and strict control over metallic impurities, hydroxyl groups, moisture, particulate contamination, and packaging cleanliness. Its strategic value lies in ensuring the deposition efficiency of optical fiber preforms, glass purity, low-loss fiber performance, and customer certification stability. It is a key chemical raw material for the manufacture of high-performance communication optical fibers and low-water-peak, multimode, and specialty optical fibers. In 2025, global shipments of High Purity Silicon Tetrachloride for Optical Fiber are estimated at approximately 105,000 tons, with a unit price of approximately US$820 per ton and a gross profit margin of approximately 27%.

Fiber-grade silicon tetrachloride (SiCl4) is one of the most widely used high-purity chemical raw materials in optical fiber preform manufacturing. In recent years, domestic companies such as Sanfu Chemical, Wuhan Xinsilicon, and Luoyang Zhonggui have successively achieved the supply of high-purity SiCl4 that meets the requirements for optical fiber preforms and synthetic quartz. According to publicly available information from Sanfu Chemical, its products have achieved large-scale supply of PCVD core rods, reaching a purity of 9N and achieving import substitution. Wuhan Xinsilicon disclosed that it can provide 4N?11N high-purity silicon tetrachloride, which is used in optical fiber preforms, synthetic quartz, semiconductor silicon epitaxy, and silicon carbide.

Market risks mainly come from two aspects. First, downstream preform manufacturers typically use long-term contracts, certification, and process-bound procurement, resulting in long supplier switching cycles. However, if customer capacity expansion slows down, supplier utilization and price elasticity will also be under pressure. Second, although 9N-grade, PCVD-grade, and special optical fiber products have higher gross margins, they have stricter requirements for hydrogen impurities, metal ions, particles, moisture, and infrared transmittance.
