The growth of industrialization also saw the escalation of one of the most basic needs of humans – transportation. North America accounted for the largest share of global hybrid-electric vehicle demand, 51% in 2004, and is expected to be the pioneering region in the uptake of HEVs due in part to the low acceptance rates for light diesel vehicles in the United States.
