A valve actuator is a mechanism valve used to open and close. Manually operated valves require someone to be present, using a direct or gear mechanism connected to the valve stem to adjust them. Electric actuators use air pressure, hydraulic pressure, or electricity to allow remote adjustment of the valve or allow rapid operation of large valves. Electric valve actuators may be the final element of an automatic control loop that automatically adjusts certain flow rates, liquid levels, or other processes. The actuator may only be used to open and close the valve, or it may allow intermediate positioning; some valve actuators include switches or other means to remotely indicate the position of the valve.
