According to Stratistics MRC, the Global Molluscicides Market is accounted for $666.70 million in 2020 and is expected to reach $1,103.38 million by 2028 growing at a CAGR of 6.5% during the forecast period. Some of the key factors propelling the market growth include increasing adoption and demand for molluscicides owing to rain-fast characteristic, introduction of green, environmentally friendly molluscicides, increasing adoption of agrochemicals in developing countries, infestation of golden apple snail in the rice fields in Asia, and rapid urbanization coupled with growing adoption of high value horticulture crops. However, stringent regulations on use of hazardous chemicals as a pesticide are likely to restraint the market.

Molluscicides are also called snail baits, slug pellets, or snail pellets. These are the pesticides against mollusks that are prominently used in agriculture and gardening to protect or control gastropod pests especially slugs and snails. Molluscs damage crops and other valued plants by feeding on them. Different types of chemicals are used for controlling mollusks are Metal salts such as aluminum sulfate, iron(III) phosphate, and ferric sodium EDTA, which is considered relatively non-toxic, also used in organic gardening. Molluscicides are the pesticides used for controlling mollusks (snails and slugs). The mollusk species have been noted to cause huge agricultural losses and have become one of the major threats. Damage caused by snails and slugs to crops varies considerably with the season and year.

By form, the pellets segment is anticipated to grow at the significant rate during the forecast period, owing to their ease of handling. Pelleting is the most common and effective technique used to control slugs and snails. The effectiveness of pellets depends upon their chemical content, especially, the presence of constituents that attract slugs and their durability under field conditions. Pelleting is the most common and effective technique used to control slugs and snails. There are 3 major active substances used in pellet molluscicides, which include ferric phosphate, methiocarb, and metaldehyde. Pellets based on methiocarb have shown good control across all slug species than other active ingredient-based pellets. Some pellets include feeding stimulants that ensure maximum insecticide effect on mollusks. The trend of using pellets is increasing due to its less toxicity; hence, manufacturers are adding a new range of pellets to their product portfolios, due to this increasing demand.

On the basis of geography, Asia Pacific region is expected to have considerable market growth during the forecast period, due to the introduction of golden apple snail in rice fields of Asia and rising adoption of modern agricultural practices, including integrated pest management. In Asian countries such as India and Malaysia, molluscicides that contain active ingredients such as niclosamide, endosulfan, camellia seed cake (residue), and copper sulfate are often used to control golden snails. Farmers in the Philippines have avoided using molluscicides because of their high cost and adverse effects on humans and livestock, while slugs cause serious crop damage in Australia and New Zealand. Those chemicals are not registered in Japan because of their negative environmental effects. Global molluscicides producer has thus developed innovative and customized products based on regional requirements, particularly in the Asia Pacific region.
