In these pumps, a series of high-speed rotor and stationary stator stages work together in the molecular flow regime to compress and evacuate gas from a chamber. The rotor blades—often spinning at tens of thousands of revolutions per minute—impart kinetic energy to the molecules, pushing them from the inlet toward the exhaust. Because these pumps require a forevacuum (backing) pump to maintain a low enough exhaust pressure, they are typically integrated into multi-stage vacuum systems. Their ability to reach pressures in the 10?№? torr range (and even lower) with clean, oil-free operation—especially in magnetically levitated designs—makes them indispensable in applications demanding ultra-high vacuum conditions.
