The key feature of the transcritical CO2 cycle is that the gas does not fully condense into a liquid during the heat rejection process, which distinguishes it from subcritical refrigeration cycles. Transcritical CO2 systems are often used in commercial refrigeration applications, such as supermarkets, food processing, and cold storage facilities. They offer several advantages, including high energy efficiency, reduced environmental impact, and compliance with environmental regulations. However, transcritical CO2 systems can be more complex and require additional components, such as gas coolers designed to handle the higher operating pressures.
