Thyristor-assisted arc extinguishing hybrid OLTC (on-load tap changer) is an advanced power equipment that combines thyristor technology and traditional on-load tap changer (OLTC). It uses thyristors as auxiliary arc-extinguishing devices, combined with traditional oil-in-arc extinguishing or vacuum-arc extinguishing technology, to achieve arc-free switching and low on-state losses. This technical design is intended to improve the performance and reliability of OLTC, reduce maintenance costs, and enhance the stability of the power grid. The introduction of thyristor modules prevents arcs from being generated during the switching process of OLTC, thereby avoiding arc damage to contacts and insulating oil and extending the service life of the equipment. Thyristor-assisted arc-extinguishing hybrid OLTC is mainly used in power systems, especially in situations where transformer ratios need to be adjusted frequently. It is suitable for large-capacity transformers with voltage levels of 110kV and above, especially in modern power grids where the access of new energy sources leads to more frequent voltage fluctuations in the grid.
