Executive Summary

Pulp is a form of wood that has been grounded to a fine powder which are used in in the making of newsprint and other cheap forms of paper and in the production of hardboard. Pulp is mostly made up from wood fiber. Wood is reduced to pulp through mechanical and chemical treatment. In addition to its primary uses such as printing & writing, packaging and tissue market, technological advancements led to use of pulp in fiber industry also. Higher purity fibre grades include diapers, rayon-based clothing, LCD screens, pharmaceuticals, food applications, and food casings.

On the basis of cellulose content, pulp is broadly categorized into four: market pulp, fluff pulp, viscose cellulose and specialty cellulose. Specialty cellulose is the highest grade of pulp as it contains more than 95% of cellulose while market pulp comes under the category of lowest grade as cellulose content in it is less than 88%.

The global pulp market has shown inclined trends over the past few years and projections are made that the market would grow over the forecasted period also i.e. 2018-2022. Rising use of tissue papers and growing use of pulp in packaging solutions are the main factors attributed to growth of the market. Growing demand for fluff pulp in personal care and hygiene products, increasing consumption of chemical wood pulp, and growing use of pulp in textile industry are some of the prominent factors that would propel the growth of the market. Yet some challenges such as regulatory compliance and rising incidence of forest fires are obstructing the growth of the market.
