Double-Beam Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS) is a type of analytical instrument that measures the amount of light absorbed by atoms of a specific element in a sample. The instrument consists of a light source, a sample holder, a monochromator, a detector, and a data processor. The light source emits radiation that covers the ultraviolet and visible spectrum. The sample holder can be either a flame or a graphite furnace that atomizes the sample into gaseous atoms. The monochromator selects the wavelength of light that corresponds to the absorption spectrum of the element of interest. The detector measures the intensity of the transmitted light and compares it with the intensity of the incident light. The data processor calculates the absorbance and the concentration of the element in the sample based on the Beer-Lambert law.
