The global europium market is estimated to be valued at US$36.597 million in 2018 and is projected to grow at a good CAGR during the 2019-2024 forecast period. Europium is a rare earth metal which belongs to the lanthanide series of elements and is soft, silvery-white in color and oxidizes in air and water. Europium is generally present in oxide form and has applications in glass and ceramic manufacturing, phosphors, and consumer electronics among others.

Europium is used for manufacturing electronic goods such as flat display televisions and fluorescent lamps. It is also used as an activator for yttrium- based phosphors. Moreover, europium oxide is also used as a watermark on Euro Banknotes for anti-counterfeiting measures. Europium is used for manufacturing nuclear rods used by the nuclear reactors for neutron absorption. The use of europium is increasing as its application are being applied to the defense sector for the manufacturing of Laser Weapon System and manufacturing of ceramic, glass and their additives.

Asia-Pacific region is dominating the production of europium. The growing demand for flat-panel televisions due to improvement in living standards, better economic growth, and rising disposable income will drive the demand for europium market in the Asia-Pacific region. Moreover, increasing civil infrastructure will augment the demand for LEDs for the purpose of street lighting and highway lighting, which in turn will increase the demand for global europium market. However, governmental export restrictive policies by China will be a restraint for global europium market as China is the largest producer of europium. Additionally, lack of refining, alloying and fabricating technologies for europium are expected to weigh down the growing demand for the global europium market during the forecast period.
