About Regis Resources Limited

Johnson's Well Mining NL (Johnson's Well or the Company) was incorporated under the laws of Australia in 1986. The Company is primarily a gold exploration company which focuses within the Duketon greenstone belt in the Eastern Goldfields of Western Australia.

The Company’s key projects are: Duketon Project; Welcome Project; and Melita Project.

The Duketon project is a joint venture between the Company (20%) and Newmont Duketon Pty Ltd, a wholly owned controlled entity of Newmont Australia Mining Limited (Newmont)(80% and manager). ) Exploration conducted at the Moolart Well prospect located 105 kilometres north of Laverton and 25 kilometres north-east of Rosemont has identified an inferred mineral resource of 14.1 million tonnes at a grade of 1.0 grams per tonne (g/t) gold for 458,000 ounces of gold (using a cutoff grade of 0.5 g/t. The drilling defined a four kilometre long zone of gold mineralisation.

The Company also has a large landholding in the exciting Leonora-Laverton area which includes the Melita gold project, located approximately 15 kilometres south-east of Leonora. The Company commenced soil geochemistry programs at Melita and at the adjoining Welcome Project.

The Company's exploration focus is gold through its exploration projects in the Duketon and Keith Kilkenny greenstone belts of the Eastern Goldfields in Western Australia.

In the Duketon greenstone belt, located approximately 300 kilometres north-east of Kalgoorlie, the company’s main interest is in conjunction with Newmont Duketon Pty Ltd, a wholly owned controlled entity within the Newmont Australia Limited Group (Newmont) who manages two joint ventures:

Duketon Regional Joint Venture: This joint venture is split into three areas: Duketon; Collurabbie; and Burtville. The exciting Moolart Well prospect is part of Duketon.

Rosemont Duketon Joint Venture: This joint venture contains the Rosemont deposit where an inferred and indicated mineral resource was identified in 1998. In the Keith Kilkenny greenstone belt, the Company has the Melita gold project. The Company has decided to not fund this project and to dilute its interest, which had diluted to 19.95% at 30 June 2003.

At Murphy Hills six reverse circulation (RC) holes totalling 859 metres have been drilled to test a zone of primary mineralisation beneath an extensive zone of supergene mineralisation. Better results included one metre at 4.8 g/t gold from 56 metres in hole KJRC-003 and one metre at 3.3 g/t gold from 126 metres in hole KJRC-002. Follow-up drilling is being planned. Drilling at Baneygo (approximately 10 kilometres south of Rosemont) also returned some encouraging results.

Melita Project

The Melita project is a recent joint venture between the Company and GKR, with the Company earning a 70 percent interest on the project. The project area is located 15 kilometres to the south-east of Leonora in West Australia in an area where several small gold deposits occur. The multi-million ounce Son’s of Gwalia gold mine, located directly south of Leonora, attests to the potential for discovering major gold deposits in the region. Within the project area, in an area directly to the west of Maltese Well, a soil geochemistry program is being undertaken. In this area, recent rock chip results returned up to 20 g/t gold.

Welcome Project

The Welcome project is located some 33 kilometres east of Leonora in Western Australia and comprises approximately 74 square kilometres of contiguous prospecting licenses. The western side of the project area covers the limb of a layered mafic intrusion and other intercalated mafic, felsic and sedimentary rocks which are partially covered by alluvial sediments in the central part of the area. Several small gold occurrences and mines occur adjacent to the project area, including Websters Find, Prince of Wales and Benalla.

SWOT Analysis

SWOT, which stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats, is an analytical framework that identifies the internal and external factors that are favorable and unfavorable for a company.

Enhanced SWOT Analysis

Enhanced SWOT is a 3×3 grid that arranges strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats into one scheme:

  • How to use the strengths to take advantage of the opportunities?
  • How to use the strengths to reduce likelihood and impact of the threats?
  • How to overcome the weaknesses that obstruct taking advantage of the opportunities?
  • How to overcome the weaknesses that can make the threats a reality?

Upon answering these questions a company can develop a project plan to improve its business performance.

PESTEL Analysis

PESTEL (also termed as PESTLE) is an ideal tool to strategically analyze what influence different outside factors – political, economic, sociocultural, technological, environmental and legal – exert on a business to later chart its long term targets.

Being part of the external analysis when carrying out a strategic assessment or performing a market study, PESTEL gives an overview of diverse macro-environmental factors that any company should thoughtfully consider. By perceiving these outside environments, businesses can maximally benefit from the opportunities while minimizing the threats to the organization.

Key Factors Examined by PESTEL Analysis:

  • Political – What opportunities and pressures are brought by political bodies and what is the degree of public regulations’ impact on the business?
  • Economic – What economic policies, trends and structures are expected to affect the organization, what is this influence’s degree?
  • Sociological – What cultural and societal aspects will work upon the demand for the business’s products and operations?
  • Technological – What impact do the technological aspects, innovations, incentives and barriers have on the organization?
  • Environmental – What environmental and ecological facets, both locally and farther afield, are likely to predetermine the business?
  • Legal – What laws and legislation will exert influence on the style the business is carried out?

IFE, EFE, IE Matrices

The Internal Factor Evaluation matrix (IFE matrix) is a strategic management tool helping audit or evaluate major weaknesses and strengths in a business’s functional areas. In addition, IFE matrix serves as a basis for identifying and assessing relationships amongst those areas. The IFE matrix is utilised in strategy formulation.

The External Factor Evaluation matrix (EFE matrix) is a tool of strategic management that is typically utilised to assess current market conditions. It is an ideal instrument for visualising and prioritising the threats and opportunities a firm is facing.

The essential difference between the above mentioned matrices lies in the type of factors incorporated in the model; whilst the latter is engaged in internal factors, the former deals exceptionally with external factors – those exposed to social, political, economic, legal, etc. external forces.

Being a continuation of the EFE matrix and IFE matrix models, the Internal External matrix (IE matrix) rests upon an investigation of external and internal business factors integrated into one suggestive model.

Porter Five Forces Analysis

The Porter’s five forces analysis studies the industry of operation and helps the company find new sources of competitive advantage. The analysis surveys an industry through five major questions:

  1. What composes a threat of substitute products and services?
  2. Is there a threat of new competitors entering the market?
  3. What is the intensity of competitive rivalry?
  4. How big is the bargaining power of buyers?
  5. How significant is the bargaining power of suppliers?

VRIO Analysis

VRIO stands for Value, Rarity, Imitability, Organization. This analysis helps to evaluate all company’s resources and capabilities and bring them together into one aggregate table that includes:

  • Tangible resources
    • Financial
    • Physical
    • Technological
    • Organizational
  • Intangible resources
    • Human
    • Innovation and Creativity
    • Reputation
  • Organizational capabilities

The result of the analysis gives a clear picture of company’s competitive and economic implications, answering the questions if the resources mentioned above are:

  • Valuable?
