Mvelaphanda Resources Ltd. (Mvela or the company) is an empowerment company with significant stakes in quality South African precious metal and mineral assets.

Diamonds

Mvela has a stake of 24.5% in Trans Hex Group Limited, South Africa’s listed diamond producer. Trans Hex engaged in the exploration, mining and marketing of high quality alluvial diamonds from both land and sea operations. The company operates mines alongside the mid and lower Orange Rivers and off the South African and Namibian coasts and in Angola and produces some xxx carats per annum. Along with Trans Hex, Mvela Res has a 50/50 JV in Mvela Exploration, which targets diamond exploration projects throughout South Africa.

Mvela has a 33.3% interest in Ndowana, a JV with De Beers, which targets primary kimberlite exploration in defined areas of South Africa’s Limpopo and Mpumalanga Provinces. Trans Hex produces conflict free diamonds and is a signatory to the Kimberley Process Certification scheme, which is aimed at eliminating trade in ‘conflict’ diamonds.

Platinum

Mvela’s platinum interests are held through Northam Platinum Limited in which it has a 22.4% stake. Situated on the western limb of the Bushveld Complex, Northam, with its world class mining and smelting infrastructure, is one of the major employers in Limpopo province and is the platinum producer in the world, with an output of 330,000 PGM oz per annum and reserves and resources of 11.3 Moz and 20.3 Moz respectively. Northam’s PGM customer base is spread across the major economic centres of the world.

In terms of PGM exploration Mvela has a 50% JV interest in the exploitation of PGMs on properties adjoining Southern Era’s Messina platinum mine in the north-eastern Bushveld. Current estimations indicate a PGM resource of 7.8 Moz.

Gold

Mvelas entered into an agreement with Gold Fields to acquire participation rights of up to 15% of the mining giant’s precious metals exploration projects in Africa, giving Mvela and its shareholders access to local and international exploration opportunities and Gold Fields’ proven geological expertise. The relationship with Gold Fields has been further strengthened in a groundbreaking empowerment transaction, whereby Mvela will acquire a 15% interest in Gold Fields’ South African gold mines – Beatrix, Driefontein and Kloof.
