About Lexington Energy Services Inc

Lexington Energy Services, Inc., together with its subsidiaries, operates as an oil field service company in the United States and Canada. The company engages in manufacturing and leasing oilfield service equipment to onshore oil and natural gas exploration and production companies, and other oil service companies for use in the drilling and production of oil and natural gas.

Products and Services

Nitrogen Generation Unit

In May, 2007, the company incorporated a wholly owned subsidiary, Nitro Gen Technologies Inc., to offer its activities relating to the operations and business of its nitrogen generation unit. Nitrogen is used in various applications in the oil and gas services industry. It is used to assist in well clean up or to enhance well flow rate. It is also used for removing fluids from well bores, purging vessels, and pressure testing operations.

Coiled Tubing Units

In 2006, the company incorporated a wholly-owned subsidiary, Lexcoil Inc., to operate its coiled tubing services. The tubing units are used for well cleanouts to enhance or initiate production in oil or gas wells. Coiled tubing units are used together with the support equipment to pump nitrogen, acid, or air into wells to remove unwanted corrosive acids, solids, and fluids from the well or drill hole.

Mobile Well Production Testing Units

The company has built two mobile well testing units. The production testing package is comprised of three components, the pressure testing vessel, flare stack, and dog house. When assembled on a well site location the components allow a testing company to ‘test the productivity of the well’ for the oil companies.

Coring Units

Oil and gas companies evaluate tar sands and coal bed methane gas by drilling evaluation holes in the earth and removing core samples. Coring involves the cutting of a vertical, cylindrical sample out of the earth of the formations encountered as a well is drilled, to allow geological analysis of the formation. The geological analysis of a core sample determines porosity, permeability, physical characteristics, fluid content, geological age, and productivity of the formation. In 2006, the company incorporated a wholly-owned subsidiary, Lexcore Services Inc., through which it operates its activities relating to building and leasing coring units. The company’s equipment is suitable for use in various drilling operations, including coring, geothermal, coal methane beds, and shallow natural gas.

The Coring Units

The coring unit includes four trucks which include:

Drilling Rig Unit: Drilling rig unit is used to raise, lower, and rotate the drill pipe in and out of the hole. It consists of a mud pump for circulation of drilling fluids. It handles downhole drilling and coring tools, and is capable of drilling range 2 drill pipe and completions of wells with range 3 casing.

Pipe Handling System: Pipe handling system is an automated system and is used to feed drill pipe to the drilling rig. This system is designed to carry up to approximately 700 m of drill pipe.

Core Van: Core van is used to pre-evaluate cored material and to prepare the material for transport to laboratories. Attached to the vehicle is a power generator, washroom, and staff change room. Also attached is an automated blow out prevention system to handle a gas kick which occurs when drilling or coring into hydro-carbon formation and would be controlled with a blow out prevention system.

Boiler Unit Mud System: The boiler truck is used to carry the boiler unit which produces steam for heat in winter drilling. It has a self contained generator. It pulls the drilling fluids tank which is used to recirculate drilling fluid. Drilling fluid is piped down the hole while the drill pipe is drilled into the ground.

The company was founded in March 2005 under the name Lexington Media, Inc. The company changed its name to Lexington Energy, Inc. in September, 2005. Further, it changed its name to Lexington Energy Services, Inc. in 2006.

SWOT Analysis

SWOT, which stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats, is an analytical framework that identifies the internal and external factors that are favorable and unfavorable for a company.

Enhanced SWOT Analysis

Enhanced SWOT is a 3×3 grid that arranges strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats into one scheme:

  • How to use the strengths to take advantage of the opportunities?
  • How to use the strengths to reduce likelihood and impact of the threats?
  • How to overcome the weaknesses that obstruct taking advantage of the opportunities?
  • How to overcome the weaknesses that can make the threats a reality?

Upon answering these questions a company can develop a project plan to improve its business performance.

PESTEL Analysis

PESTEL (also termed as PESTLE) is an ideal tool to strategically analyze what influence different outside factors – political, economic, sociocultural, technological, environmental and legal – exert on a business to later chart its long term targets.

Being part of the external analysis when carrying out a strategic assessment or performing a market study, PESTEL gives an overview of diverse macro-environmental factors that any company should thoughtfully consider. By perceiving these outside environments, businesses can maximally benefit from the opportunities while minimizing the threats to the organization.

Key Factors Examined by PESTEL Analysis:

  • Political – What opportunities and pressures are brought by political bodies and what is the degree of public regulations’ impact on the business?
  • Economic – What economic policies, trends and structures are expected to affect the organization, what is this influence’s degree?
  • Sociological – What cultural and societal aspects will work upon the demand for the business’s products and operations?
  • Technological – What impact do the technological aspects, innovations, incentives and barriers have on the organization?
  • Environmental – What environmental and ecological facets, both locally and farther afield, are likely to predetermine the business?
  • Legal – What laws and legislation will exert influence on the style the business is carried out?

IFE, EFE, IE Matrices

The Internal Factor Evaluation matrix (IFE matrix) is a strategic management tool helping audit or evaluate major weaknesses and strengths in a business’s functional areas. In addition, IFE matrix serves as a basis for identifying and assessing relationships amongst those areas. The IFE matrix is utilised in strategy formulation.

The External Factor Evaluation matrix (EFE matrix) is a tool of strategic management that is typically utilised to assess current market conditions. It is an ideal instrument for visualising and prioritising the threats and opportunities a firm is facing.

The essential difference between the above mentioned matrices lies in the type of factors incorporated in the model; whilst the latter is engaged in internal factors, the former deals exceptionally with external factors – those exposed to social, political, economic, legal, etc. external forces.

Being a continuation of the EFE matrix and IFE matrix models, the Internal External matrix (IE matrix) rests upon an investigation of external and internal business factors integrated into one suggestive model.

Porter Five Forces Analysis

The Porter’s five forces analysis studies the industry of operation and helps the company find new sources of competitive advantage. The analysis surveys an industry through five major questions:

  1. What composes a threat of substitute products and services?
  2. Is there a threat of new competitors entering the market?
  3. What is the intensity of competitive rivalry?
  4. How big is the bargaining power of buyers?
  5. How significant is the bargaining power of suppliers?
