The Air Cooled Heat Exchanger consists of an element (bundle) of finned heat exchange tubes over which ambient air is forced or induced by axial fan/fans thereby transferring heat between the fluid within the tubes and the external air.

ACHX is used for improving plant efficiency and as compared to cooling towers and shell and tube heat exchangers.

Non requirement and non-contamination of water brings further advantage to ACHX with respect to environmental friendliness. Cost savings are among the key marketing strategies promoted by companies.

As it does not require water, plants requiring large cooling capacities can be located far from cooling water bodies. It is suitable for wide range of applications ranging from use in an automobile radiator to a 1.2 GW power plant.
