TPGS-VE (tocophersolan, tocofersolan, vitamin E TPGS) is a water-soluble form of natural-source vitamin E, with the molecular formula C₃₅H₅₈O₆. It is prepared by esterifying the acid group of crystalline d-О±-tocopheryl acid succinate with polyethylene glycol 1000. Vitamin E TPGS is very stable and does not hydrolyze under normal conditions. It is practically tasteless.

Possessing unparalleled properties and a solid history of safety and efficacy, this non-toxic multi role excipient is used in a variety of industries and applications.

Vitamin E TPGS enhances the absorption and bioavailability of lipid and poorly soluble compounds especially in conditions of malabsorption by three major mechanisms: emulsification of lipid compounds and solubilization of poorly soluble compounds; formation of micelle-like particles which facilitate absorption; and modulation of efflux pump activity by inhibition of the P-glycoprotein (P-gp) which is responsible for decreased drug accumulation in multidrug-resistant cells and often mediates the development of resistance to anticancer drugs.

The properties of vitamin E TPGS as an amphiphile, emulsifier and its ability to form micelle particles and various liquid crystalline phases enable TPGS to serve in drug delivery and controlled release systems. Vitamin E TPGS is used to affect physical form, solubility and other properties of drug delivery and controlled release systems.
