Usage:Used as a sequestering agent forming water-sol complexes with calcium in alkaline media and with iron in near neutral solns.

Sodium gluconate, otherwise known as D-Gluconate sodium salt, Monosodium gluconate, Sodium D-gluconate, etc., is defined as the sodium salt of gluconic acid, which has a molecular weight 218.13 and molecular formula C6H11NaO7. The product occurs as a white or off-white granular powder that melts at 206 В°C. Sodium gluconate is highly soluble in water. The product is prepared by fermentation of glucose.

Sodium gluconate is mainly used in metal surface water treatment, printing and textile dyeing. The product is employed as a steel surface cleaning agent, a chelating agent for cement, plating and alumina dyeing industries, and as a cleaning agent for glass bottles.

Direct contact of the product with eyes may cause transient discomfort that may be characterized by conjunctival redness, tearing. In some cases, the product may provoke foreign body irritation. Ingestion of sodium gluconate can lead to the gastrointestinal tract discomfort with nausea, vomiting. Overexposure to the product can result in changes in lung function, lung injury, chest discomfort.
