After experiencing a rapid development in the past ten years, China has already become a major producer of polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) in the world, possessing a capacity of 21,700 t/a in 2013. Driven by government support, Chinese PVP’s quality and production scale has been greatly improved, thus attracting more and more attention from both domestic and overseas markets. In recent years, both the domestic consumption and export volume of PVP made in the country have kept an uptrend.

In 2013, the apparent consumption volume of PVP in China was over 7,000 tonnes, attaining a CAGR of 4.93% during 2009-2013. Of this, only a small part of high-quality goods was imported for application in pharmaceuticals. Pharmaceuticals, daily chemicals and office supplies keep being the top three downstream fields of PVP, capturing over 90% of the country’s total consumption of the product in 2013. Driven by deepening research and the improvement in production technology, PVP's consumption in the downstream industries will keep rising in the future.

However, like most chemical industries in China, China’s PVP industry is also troubled by overcapacity, especially since 2009. Meanwhile, as the production process of PVP is of high-pollution, most PVP producers in China have begun to remove their production sites into suburb areas to reduce impact on residents nearby. Anyway, it is estimated that both the capacity and output of PVP in China will keep growing in the next few years as driven by the growing demand for PVP. Fortunately, although the capacity of PVP in China has kept stable during the past few years, but the operating rate has improved much.

To show readers a deep insight into China’s PVP industry, this report represents the following key points:

Along with growing public awareness of PVP, its application has been penetrated into more and more fields, such as daily chemicals, pharmaceuticals, office supplies and textile. After decades of development, especially the fast growing in the 21st century, China has become one of the world's major PVP producers with capacity and output respectively reaching xxx t/a and xxx tonnes in 2013, following the US and Germany.

xxx has been the largest producer of PVP both by capacity and output in China. In 2013, the capacity and output of PVP in the province was about xxx t/a and xxx tonnes, taking up xxx% and xxx% of the country's total respectively. Following xxx, xxx produced xxx tonnes of the PVP in 2013, with the capacity of xxx t/a.

Among the top ten active PVP producers in China, Zhangzhou Huafu is a newcomer compared with others. The company was established in Fujian Province in 2009 with a capacity of about xxx t/a and an output of xxx tonnes in 2013. In July 2014, the first stage of Boai NKY's PVP capacity expansion with a capacity of xxx t/a has been launched.

Driven by the fast development of downstream industries such as the daily chemical industry and the pharmaceutical industry in China, the PVP consumption has been growing rapidly at a CAGR of over xxx% in the country from 2009 to 2013. In 2013, the apparent consumption volume of PVP in China was about xxx tonnes, slightly more than the one in 2012.
