Fluorene (or 9H-Fluorene) is a member of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) (or polynuclear hydrocarbon), with two benzene rings fused to cyclopemtane ring. It has a molecular formula of C13H10 and a melting point between 116-117В°C. This small white or pink crystal is insoluble in water but soluble in some organic compounds like ethanol, diethyl ether, benzene, carbon disulfide, etc.

On a commercial basis, fluorine is obtained from from middle oil fraction of coal tar, but it can also be prepared by dehydrogenation of diphenylmethane.

Fluorine is a precursor to other fluorene compounds that have useful functions such as light and temperature sensitivity, heat resistance, conductivity, emittability, corrosion resistance and detection of amino groups.

Fluorene family compounds are base materials for dyes and optical brightening agents, and are used in the applications of thermo and light sensitizer, liquid crystal chemistry, luminescence chemistry, spectrophotometric analysis, molecular chemistry, organometallic-complexes and biochemorphology industry.

Fluorene-9-carboxylic acid, for example, is a precursor to pharmaceuticals. 2-Aminofluorene, 3,6-bis-(dimethylamino) fluorene, and 2,7-diiodofluorene are precursors to dyes. 9-fluorenylmethyl chloroformate (Fmoc chloride) is used to introduce the 9-fluorenylmethyl carbamate (Fmoc) protecting group on amines in peptide synthesis.

Industrial fluorene market is covered in the study Industrial Fluorene (CAS 86-73-7) Market Research Report 2021. The report encompasses proper description of the product, unveils application areas, and briefly summarizes patents in the sphere. It overlooks industrial fluorene market situation, names manufacturers, suppliers as well as users. The report also provides current industrial fluorene prices in the market.
