Fluorosilicic acid (dihydrogen, silicate(2-), hexafluoro-, dihydrogen hexafluorosilicate) is an inorganic compound with the molecular formula F6H2Si and molecular weight 144.09. The compound exists as a colorless liquid with a penetrating pungent odor. Commercially the product is available as aqueous solutions in C.P. and technical grades. The boiling point of fluorosilicic acid is 108-109°C. The compound is produced by the reaction between hydrogen fluoride (HF) with silicon compounds. Also, fluorosilicic acid is processed as a co-product of phosphoric acid manufacturing.

The product is widely utilized as a source of fluoride for water fluoridation. Moreover, fluorosilicic acid is used for the production of aluminium metal and cryolite, hydrogen fluoride. The acid can be found in ceramics and glass, in technical paints, in oil well acidizing. Fluorosilicic acid has its application in the sterilization of equipment, in the tanning of animal hides and skins. Besides, the product is employed to preserve wood and harden masonry as an impregnating ingredient.

Fluorosilicic acid produces eye burns, corneal damage and chemical conjunctivitis. Exposure to skin leads to burns, skin rash or clammy skin. Ingestion of the acid may result in the damage of the digestive tract and burns of the gastrointestinal tract. Fever, nausea, labored breathing, vomiting, intense thirst, convulsions are amid other symptoms caused by the ingestion of fluorosilicic acid. Aspiration of the product can cause pulmonary edema. Repeated ingestion and inhalation of fluorosilicic acid may cause serious chronic fluoride poisoning.
