Hexafluoropropylene (HFP), also known as perfluoropropylene, propylene, perfluoropropene, hexafluoropropylene, etc., is a fluorocarbon alkene with the molecular formula C3F6 and molecular weight 150.02. HFP occurs as a colorless and odorless gas that is water insoluble. It has a boiling point of -29.4 В°C and melting point of -156.2 В°C. The product is made by temperature controlled pyrolysis of chlorodifluoromethane. It also derives from tetrafluoroethylene by heating at normal or reduced pressure.

Hexafluoropropylene is mainly employed as a chemical intermediate. The product acts as a comonomer of many fluoropolymers. HFP is utilized in the production of HFC-227ea; F26, F246 fluororubber; tetrafluoroethylene-hexafluoropropylene copolymer; fluorine-containing surfactant; fluorine-containing medicine intermediate; fluoroether.

Hexafluoropropylene can cause irritation of eyes and skin. Inhalation of HFP may lead to, suffocation, irregular heartbeat, lung congestion, symptoms of drunkenness. Prolonged exposure to the product can result in the damage of liver and kidneys.
