This report is mainly focused on oleic acid and dimer acid. Oleic acid is one of the most common polyunsaturated fatty acid in the whole fatty acid industry. Dimer acid is a downstream product of oleic acid, and a very important material in the chemical industry.

Report scope:
- Oleic acid
- Dimer acid
- Stearic acid
- Erucic acid
- Palmitic acid
- Upstream and downstream products of oleic acid
- Downstream products of dimer aicd

Why you should buy this report
- To obtain the latest market info of fatty acid and dimer acid, including their production, producers, export & import, raw material, technology, and demand, etc.
- To learn about key market drivers and factors, and what’s the future of oleic acid and dimer acid in China
- To understand the commercial opportunities of oleic acid and dimer acid in China
- To keep you informed of your competitors/their activities in China
- To assist you in making business decisions

Report highlights

China’s total production capacity of oleic acid as of Feb 2008 is 267,800t/a. The oleic acid producers in China are distributed in Jiangsu, Fujian, Zhejiang, Shandong Sichuan, Xinjiang, Guangdong, Hubei, Shanxi, Hebei and Shanghai.

As of Feb 2008, there are 14 active producers of dimer acid in China with the total capacity of 70,000t/a, most of which are distributed in East China.

Fujian Provincial Institute of Chemical Industrial Science & Technology researched and developed the multi-tower continuous vacuum distillation equipment successfully and this equipment has been widely adopted by producers all over China.

There are many dimer acid production technologies in China, and the most popular ones include thermal polymerization method and bleaching earth catalytic polymerization method.

Cheap and easily available raw materials, such as acid oil, the byproduct from the production of rapeseed oil, palm oil and cottonseed oil, are very important for most fatty acid producers in China.

The main raw materials of dimer acid are some kinds of unsaturated fatty acids, such as tall oil fatty acid, rapeseed oil fatty acid, soybean oil fatty acid, cottonseed oil fatty acid and sunflower oil fatty acid. Since the 1990s, most producers in China have adopted the refined oleic acid to produce dimer acid, thus the quality of dimer acid has been greatly improved.

In recent years, Chinese government has been taking several positive measures to encourage the production of biodiesel, and it has set a goal that the national output of biodiesel should reach 200 million tonnes in 2010, which will compete with oleic acid production for the supply of acid oil. Therefore, in the future, some oleic acid and dimer acid producers may face acid oil supply shortage. And the purchasing competition of acid oil may become even more intense.
