Usage:As a sulfiding agent added to the initial feed of a hydrotreater when the hydrotreating catalyst is present in the form of oxides.

Dimethyl disulfide is a stable yellowish liquid. This substance can be used in oil refining process and in petrochemicals because of its properties. Dimethyl disulfide (also called DMDS) very stable under thermal effects due to unique strength of the sulfur-sulfur link. Also dimethyl disulfide can be transformed into two mercaptan units by photochemical and catalytic means

In oil refining process dimethyl disulfide can be used as sulfiding or presulfiding material. Its means that dimethyl disulfide activate the catalysts of hydro treating unit during the oil processing.

In the petrochemical manufacturing operator must protect steam cracking coils from coke and carbon monoxide which are formed during the chemical process. In general, in petrochemicals dimethyl disulfide often used for decreasing the number of decoking operations. So it can be added to the commodity for sustaining an optimal sulfur level. These actions can reduce the amount of coke, which forming during the process, and reduce the number of decoking operations.
