Calcium carbonate (Neoanticid, Limestone, Domolite, Caltrate, Chemcarb, Kotamite, etc.) is a chemical compound with the molecular formula CCaO3 and molecular weight 100.08. Calcium carbonate is a white odorless solid that is poorly soluble in water. The product occurs in rocks, shells of marine organisms, coal balls, pearls. Calcium carbonate is also a component of the earth's crust. The product is extracted by quarrying and mining, but it also can be prepared from calcium oxide.

Calcium carbonate is widely employed in the construction industry as an ingredient of cement and builder's lime. The product is utilized to purify iron from iron ore in a blast furnace. Calcium carbonate finds its application in medicine as an inexpensive dietary calcium supplement or gastric antacid. The product is effective in the treatment of hyperphosphatemia, diarrhea. Moreover, another use of the product is the manufacturing of toothpaste. It is also employed as a color retainer and food preservative. Besides, calcium carbonate has environmental applications. The product is utilized in neutralizing acidic conditions in soil and water. Calcium carbonate is excessively used in the manufacturing of container and flat glass, paints, paper, plastics, latex carpet backing materials. Moreover, calcium carbonate has been always known as a useful fertilizer.

Excessive consumption of the product can be hazardous for health. Calcium carbonate may cause eye, skin, the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts irritation.

Calcium carbonate market is covered in the study Calcium Carbonate (CAS 471-34-1) Market Research Report 2023.
