Betulin is a non-bioactive precursor of betulinic acid, which possesses a raft of biological and pharmacological activities. Therefore, betulin helps to heal wounds and cut inflammation, treats melanoma and other serious diseases. Betulin is mainly used in the pharmaceutical production as raw material and in perfumery-cosmetic products as a key active ingredient. Betulin is found in the manufacturing of monomers to create a polyester polymers and compounds, industrial lubricants and additives to detergents. Betulin displays hepatoprotective, anti-tumor, gastroprotective, antioxidant, antitumorigenic and anti-viral properties. The product is used as a food additive and as an ingredient in cosmetic products such as barrier creams from solar radiation, shampoos, lotions and others.
