Arginine, otherwise known as L-arginine, polyarginine, levargin, DL-Arginine, etc., is an essential О±-amino acid with the molecular formula C6H14N4O2 and the molecular weight 174.20. The product is a white odorless solid that is insoluble in ethyl ether and slightly soluble in ethanol. Arginine is found in foods such as nuts, meat, fish, dairy products and in general, in foods that are rich in plant and animal proteins. The product is commonly sold in supplement form.

Arginine is employed in the treatment of such diseases as alcoholic hepatitis and advanced cirrhosis, hypertension, erectile dysfunction. It is also effective in treating mental stress and anxiety. The product is essential in nitrogen metabolism, urea cycle. Arginine helps a body to get rid of ammonia. The acid is effective in cell division, plays an immune function, helps in healing wounds. Arginine takes part in maintaining the overall charge balance of a protein.
