Liquid anhydrous ammonia refers to a compound of nitrogen and hydrogen with the molecular formula H3N. Liquid anhydrous ammonia is a colorless liquid with a pungent, suffocating smell. Its boiling point is −33.34 °C. The product dissolves in water, alcohol, acetone, chloroform, benzene, and in other organic solvents. Liquid anhydrous ammonia is corrosive to copper, zinc, etc. and their alloys. Entering into a reaction with acids, liquid anhydrous ammonia produces ammonium salts.

Liquid anhydrous ammonia is a building-block for the synthesis of many pharmaceuticals. The product is used in manufacturing of commercial cleaning products and detergents. Liquid ammonia is utilized in the processing of chemical fertilizers, medicines and pesticides. The product is used as refrigerant, agricultural fertilizer. Furthermore, liquid ammonia is utilized in the mercerized finishing of textiles, in water treatment, in neutralizing the acid constituents. Besides, the product is used as a source of protein in livestock feeds and as the developing agent in photochemical processes. The product also neutralizes sulfur oxides from combustion of sulfur-containing fuels.

Liquid anhydrous ammonia is highly caustic and hazardous. It may cause severe skin and eyes burns, permanent eye damage, corrosive burns, frostbites. Moreover, it causes severe burns of nose, throat, respiratory tract. Bronchospasm, pulmonary edema or respiratory arrest are amid potential health effects of liquid anhydrous ammonia, too.

Liquid anhydrous ammonia market is covered in the study Liquid Anhydrous Ammonia (CAS 7664-41-7) Market Research Report 2013.
