HPMC (Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose) is a semisynthetic, inert, viscoelastic polymer with the chemical formula C32H60O19. It is a white or beige solid/powder at room temperature. Sometimes it can have a granular texture. HPMC is almost insoluble in acetone and ethanol, but soluble in some organic solvents or water-organic components. When added to water directly, HPCM will agglomerate to dissolve later.
HPMC has a wide range of applications due to its properties. The construction materials industry is the main end-use sector of HPMC and its derivatives.
