Research Background

2006 was a year of twists of turns for China’s livestock industry. Due to bird flu and hog surplus, poultry and hog market slipped into a recession in the first half of the year with a substantial decline of poultry and hog product price. Hog fever spread from the south to the north in summer. A number of small poultry and hog farms closed down. But in the second half of 2006, broiler, egg and pork supply turned strained accompanied by strong upturn of livestock product price.

2007 is expected to see noticeable changes in the livestock industry. Livestock farm structure may go through great changes. Livestock farms have to meet the challenge of food safety. Hog futures trading is to be launched at Dalian Commodity Exchange, and so on and so forth.

On the basis of in-depth analysis of the livestock market in 2006, this study intends to reveal the trend in the livestock market in 2007, so as to provide a reliable reference to relevant enterprises in their decision-making.

This study is intended for such readers: feed and animal drug producers, livestock administering organizations, livestock service institutions, livestock enterprises, livestock slaughterhouses, meatpacking enterprises, livestock product traders and futures traders, veterinary institutions, livestock information institutions, etc.

This study covers such livestock products: hogs and pork, poultry and poultry meat and eggs, beef cattle and beef, mutton sheep and mutton.
