Newsprint

This segment produces newsprint at 15 facilities in North America, South Korea, and the United Kingdom. The company supplies publishers with newsprint, including products made of up to 100% recycled fiber. The company sells newsprint to various joint venture partners. During 2009, these joint venture partners purchased approximately 431,000 metric tons from its consolidated entities.

Coated papers

This segment produces coated mechanical paper at one facility in North America. The company’s coated papers are used in magazines, catalogs, books, retail advertising, direct mail, and coupons. The company sells coated papers to commercial printers, publishers, catalogers, and retailers.

Specialty papers

This segment produces specialty papers at 11 facilities in North America. The company produces supercalendered, superbright, high bright, bulky book, and directory papers used in books, retail advertising, direct mail, coupons, and other commercial printing applications. Market pulp
