Liquid-based cytology diagnostic preservation fluid is an in vitro diagnostic reagent formulated from alcohol-based fixatives, purified water, buffering salts, osmotic regulators, chelating agents, cellular stabilizers and, where required, red-cell-lysing, mucolytic or antimicrobial components. It is used for the collection, fixation, transportation and ambient-temperature preservation of cervical exfoliated cells, urine, sputum, pleural and peritoneal fluids, washings, fine-needle aspirates and other cytology specimens, providing a stable cell suspension for membrane filtration, centrifugation, density-gradient enrichment or sedimentation-based slide preparation. Key upstream inputs include methanol, ethanol and other alcohols, purified water, phosphate and other buffer systems, inorganic salts, osmotic regulators, chelators, surfactant or mucus-processing components, antimicrobial agents, medical-grade plastic vials, caps, seals, labels and packaging materials. Major downstream customers include hospital pathology and cytopathology laboratories, independent diagnostic laboratories, maternal and child health institutions, cervical cancer screening centers, oncology hospitals, primary screening networks, and distributors of liquid-based cytology instruments and reagents. The industry's overall gross margin was approximately 32%?48%.
