The global PCB Dry Film market size is expected to reach $ 1542 million by 2032, rising at a market growth of 3.7% CAGR during the forecast period (2026-2032).

PCB dry film, also known as photosensitive dry film, is a prefabricated, roll-to-roll, laminable negative photoresist material used for transferring circuit patterns on PCBs, FPCs, HDI boards, and IC carrier boards. This product typically consists of a PET carrier film, a photosensitive resin layer, and a PE/PP protective film. The photosensitive resin layer comprises film-forming resin, photopolymerizable monomers, photoinitiators, sensitizers, dyes, stabilizers, and additives.

Unlike liquid photoresists, PCB dry film undergoes pre-mixing, precision coating, drying, lamination, and winding before leaving the factory, ultimately being delivered to PCB manufacturers in roll-shaped film form. In use, PCB manufacturers peel off the protective film and then laminate the photosensitive layer onto the surface of copper-clad laminate, copper foil, or substrate using a thermoforming method. After UV exposure or LDI direct imaging, the exposed areas undergo photopolymerization or cross-linking reactions to form a developable, etch-resistant pattern. Unexposed areas are removed in the developer, and subsequent etching, electroplating, and film removal processes achieve precise transfer of the circuit pattern. Its core function is as a pattern transfer medium in the PCB manufacturing process, directly affecting circuit resolution, adhesion, via capping capability, etch/electroplating resistance, development tolerance, and final yield.

In terms of price, the global average price of dry film for PCBs is around USD 0.79 per square meter in 2025, with a demand/sales volume of 1.426 billion square meters that year.

From the perspective of downstream applications, multilayer PCBs, HDI boards and IC substrates are expected to be the core growth areas for PCB dry film photoresist. Among them, IC substrates are expected to deliver the highest growth rate over the next few years. As a result, dry film used in conventional rigid PCBs will remain the demand base, while incremental market growth and pricing upside will mainly come from HDI boards, high-layer-count multilayer boards, IC substrates, package substrates and dry films used in high-end surface treatment processes.

From the perspective of demand drivers, applications such as AI servers, high-speed networking and communications, new energy vehicles, ADAS, smart cockpits and millimeter-wave radar are raising the requirements for PCB line width/space, layer count, registration accuracy and reliability. This is driving increasing demand for LDI dry film, high-resolution dry film, high-adhesion dry film and high plating-resistance dry film.

From the perspective of competitive landscape, the global PCB dry film photoresist market has long been dominated by foreign and Taiwan-based suppliers. In the past, mainland Chinese suppliers were constrained by formulation capabilities, resin synthesis, precision coating, equipment capability and customer qualification, which limited their ability to achieve large-scale supply.

From the perspective of technical barriers, the core barriers of PCB dry film photoresist lie in the integrated capabilities of resin synthesis, photoresist formulation, film thickness uniformity, clean coating, slitting and winding, batch-to-batch consistency and customer process adaptation. The product goes through five key stages: raw materials, synthetic resin, photoresist formulation, dry film master roll and finished product. Each stage affects the final product performance. At the same time, synthetic resin is a key base material and has a decisive impact on dry film performance. Most leading industry players therefore have in-house resin synthesis capabilities.

Looking ahead, the PCB dry film photoresist market will be shaped by three main themes. First, demand-side growth is expected to remain steady, driven by the recovery of global PCB output value and the increasing penetration of AI servers, automotive electronics, high-layer-count multilayer boards and HDI boards.
