Phenethylammonium iodide, commonly abbreviated as PEAI, is an aromatic organic ammonium iodide salt used in metal-halide perovskite optoelectronics. It functions as a bulky organic spacer cation, surface-passivation reagent, and quasi-2D perovskite precursor. In perovskite solar cells, LEDs, photodetectors, and related devices, PEAI is used to modify interfaces, reduce surface defects, form 2D/3D heterostructures, improve moisture tolerance, and tune crystallization behavior. Greatcell Solar Materials explicitly positions PEAI as a precursor for perovskite-based devices such as perovskite solar cells.

This means PEAI?s commercial value will depend on solvent compatibility, coating uniformity, process damage control, and batch consistency, not only on chemical purity.

From a supply perspective, PEAI is a small-volume, high-purity, application-specific optoelectronic material. The relevant supplier base is composed mainly of perovskite-material specialists and high-end research reagent platforms.
