LED based street lights are the most energy efficient and cost-effective lighting solution for outdoor lighting applications. They are extensively used in urban areas, small-town main streets, commercial districts, industrial parks, at interstate highway interchanges and rural intersections. These lighting fixtures not only enhance illumination along the city streets but also offer cost-savings due to their energy efficiency, lesser maintenance requirements and longer lifetimes. LED street lights are quite superior compared to the older lighting technologies like High Pressure Sodium (HPS) lamps, incandescent lamps and fluorescent lamps. These lights use 40-80% less electricity and have at least 5 times more life expectancy than regular High Pressure Sodium (HPS) lamps. They are seven times more energy efficient than incandescent lamps and twice as efficient as fluorescent lamps. Thus, they increase the replacement time thereby reducing expenses on their replacement and labor. These lights are even recyclable, contain no harmful gases and substances like mercury, lead or other hazardous chemicals and don’t require special handling and waste management procedures.
