LED down lights currently represent one of the most popular types of recessed lighting fixtures in both residential and commercial lighting applications. The new developments in LED technologies and luminaire designs have enabled significant energy savings through this lighting product. Although these lights were initially intended for directional lighting, their recessed versions are now extensively being used for hallways, offices, kitchens, bathrooms, malls, showrooms, etc. Today, they are available in a broad range of sizes and lumen packages offering a viable alternative to compact fluorescent and incandescent lamps. They come in the smallest power range from 1-5W to the biggest power of up to 55-60W and can be mounted on high ceilings of shopping malls. There are multiple choices for the light beam angles (from narrow to extensive) and colors that can be dimmed or brightened according to the situation/occasion. These lights require lesser maintenance and last longer than their traditional counterparts. They are also easy to clean-up in case of breakage as they don’t contain mercury. With the growing LED technology and increasing demand of various luminaire designs, LED down lights are expected to become more energy efficient, smaller and lighter in the coming years.
