This technology enhances the surface hardness, wear resistance, fatigue life, and corrosion resistance of metal components, particularly steel and certain alloys, by diffusing nitrogen into the metal surface to form hard nitrides. Compared to conventional nitriding methods, vacuum gas nitriding offers superior process control, improved surface quality, and environmental benefits, making it increasingly preferred in high-precision manufacturing sectors. The core of a vacuum gas nitriding furnace consists of a vacuum chamber equipped with heating elements, gas supply systems, vacuum pumps, and advanced process control units. During operation, the furnace evacuates air to create a high or low vacuum, eliminating atmospheric contaminants and enabling precise control over the process atmosphere. Nitrogen-rich gas?often ammonia (NH3) or nitrogen-hydrogen mixtures?is then introduced under carefully controlled pressure and temperature conditions, allowing nitrogen atoms to diffuse into the workpiece surface layer at temperatures typically ranging from 500?C to 600?C. Vacuum gas nitriding enhances surface properties by producing a hard, wear-resistant nitride layer, often combined with a diffusion zone beneath it that improves fatigue strength. This method reduces distortion and prevents surface oxidation or decarburization, which are common in open-air nitriding processes. The controlled vacuum environment also minimizes the formation of unwanted compounds and ensures a clean, uniform case depth with superior adhesion and dimensional stability.
