The global filtration industry has seen a staggering number of acquisitions and mergers in recent years, and 35 significant changes were recorded in 2017 alone. Indeed, acquisitions have played a crucial part of the strategies of the industry's five leading companies—namely Danaher/Pall Corporation, Parker Hannifin/Clarcor, Donaldson, Filtration Group and Mann+Hummel. For example, Pall Corporation acquired Danaher for US$13.8 bn in August 2015, and Parker Hannifin acquired Clarcor for US$4.3 bn in February 2017 while Filtration Group has acquired no less than 14 companies since 2009. Furthermore, as well as the big players, the filtration industry includes a huge number of smaller single product suppliers which could represent attractive bolt-on opportunities for the bigger companies.
