The market for new equipments for elevators and escalators in India has been dominated by elevators. The elevator market contributed around ~% share as compared to the mere ~% contribution by the escalator market to the overall number of new escalators and elevators installed in India during FY’2013. Residential, malls and public infrastructure together accounted for ~% in new equipment installation of elevators in India in FY’2013. Of the overall elevator installations, majority of the share was led by the traction elevator contributing around ~% of the market share. In traction elevator segment, the contribution of the geared elevator was noted to be significantly higher at ~% in FY’2013. The share of gearless elevator although low, has been observed of growing at a much faster rate. The market for elevator in India was primarily driven by the sales of passenger elevators contributing the market share of ~%, while the share of freight elevators although low, was observed gaining traction owing to the economy’s escalating industrialization process.
