China’s Li-ion battery market has developed at breakneck pace in recent years, fuelled by the rise of the mobile phone, the tablet, and more lately the electric vehicle and energy storage industries.

Up to this point, Chinese manufacturers have used cost advantages to grab market share from their competitors in Japan, Korea and the US, but their long-term future is still uncertain as they struggle to close the R&D gap between themselves and their international competitors. Industry consolidation is also sure to accelerate over the next few years.

China Li-ion Battery E-News will help you stay ahead of the game in this fast-changing market with real-time reporting on the entire Li-ion battery industry chain, from lithium ore and brine markets through anode and cathode materials and electrolyte to the downstream consumer electronics, EV and energy storage markets. This includes:
  • Breaking news from China and abroad
  • The latest market data, including price information for raw materials, intermediates and end products, import/export data, production, consumption, operating rates, etc.
  • In-depth analysis of market trends, Chinese government policy, the performance of leading Chinese producers, M&A, new technologies, and more
  • Expert commentary from industry insiders, including regular guest articles and interviews with insiders at leading Chinese manufacturers, associations and government organizations

The demand for LFP and ternary materials in the downstream industries is gradually recovering with obvious increases, and the demand for lithium carbonate shipment has also increased.

Affected by the declining demand for new energy vehicles in the terminal market, Ningbo Shanshan's total sales of li-ion battery materials declined by 1 4.94% YoY in H1 of 2020.

Yongxing Materials said in its semiannual report of 2020 that the sales volume of its lithium carbonate in H1 of this year reached nearly 2,600 tonnes, and the company has created a whole industrial chain in terms of Li-ion battery materials.

In H1 of 2020, Yunnan Energy achieved a revenue of USD205.92 million (RMB1.44 billion), a YoY growth of 4.54%; its net profit attributable to shareholders of listed companies was USD45.87 million (RMB321 million), down by 17.36% YoY.

In H1 of 2020, Xiamen Tungsten achieved a net profit of USD33.30 million (RMB233 million) for shareholders of listed companies, a YoY increase of 201.68%.

In early Aug., JSEM released its 2020 semiannual report which shows that the company gains USD1 7.86 million (RMB125 million) from its lithium carbonate business, a YoY decrease of 49.47%.

On 30 July, Guangdong Weihua issued its semiannual report for 2020 which shows that in H1 2020, the company's revenue stood at USD1 07.60 million (RMB753 million), a year-on-year decline of 28.95%; with a loss of USD23.86 million (RMB1 67 million) in terms of its net profit for its shareholders of listed companies, it saw a year-on-year decrease of 385.00%.

In July, the installed capacity of power batteries in China was about 5.00 GWh, a year-on-year increase of 6.20% and a month-onmonth increase of 6.10%. JSEM signed the Cooperation Agreement on Lithium Salt Production Line with Ganfeng Lithium, planning to deliver the lithium salt production line ran by Yichun Yinli New Energy over to Ganfeng Lithium for independent production, operation and management.

Ganfeng Lithium shall have all the operating revenue and bear all the losses.

In Aug., thanks to the strong demand in the downstream digital battery market and micro-power products market, some types of cathode materials saw increased demand, order and price.

In Aug., the price of anode material, electrolyte and separator stayed stable. It is expected that price of anode material and other materials will continue to remain stable.
