DEEP VEIN THROMBOSIS PIPELINE ANALYSIS
• Deep vein thrombosis is the formation of blood clot in a vein in the body. Maximum clots of the deep vein occur in the legs.
• It can cause pain and redness in the legs along with swelling in the lower leg (ankle and foot). It is a member of venous thromboembolism (VTE).
• This blockage of blood vessels leads to low oxygen levels in the blood, causing damage to the lungs known as pulmonary embolism. Generally, anticoagulation therapy is used for the treatment of DVT, whereas procedures such as thrombolysis and placement of inferior vena cava filters are also used in a unique situation.
• In the present drug pipeline, the most preferred route of administration remains through the oral mode, with around 43% of the pipeline molecules administered through this mode. Edoxaban was approved in 2015. Heparin, Enoxaparin are in early phase and phase 1 clinical trials of development. Biologicals like Alteplase (recombinant t-PA), Apixaban, Warfarin are in phase 2 trails, and Xarelto, Rivaroxaban, Tinzaparin, Enoxaparin are in period three stages of development.
• Of all the stages of development, more percentage of drugs are found to be in the late stage of clinical development. Which upon successful completion can, therefore, be expected to hit the market shortly.
• Globally, development of efficient and advanced technology, increase in the awareness among people regarding existing treatments for venous thromboembolism, increasing government initiatives across the globe, growing prevalence and incidence rate of venous thromboembolism are the prime growth drivers of the venous thromboembolism treatment market.
• Despite, higher cost of the research and development, and complex government regulatory approvals, an increase in adoption of venous thromboembolism treatment in emerging economies such as China, India, and others, has gained focus of the researchers to develop products in this area.
