Traditionally, cigars was mainly consumed by males of 50-years old and above in the middle-high and, in particular, high income groups. Cigar consumption is generally regarded as a luxury habit due to the high price of the main brands, which are Cuban. With a predominantly chauvinistic local culture, women were still not willing to be seen smoking cigars in public. However, in Ecuador, cigars did not develop much due to the strong penetration of cigarettes.
