Spirits became more stable in 2016 than in 2015. The negative growth is due to declining sales of local spirits. Nonetheless, international spirits recorded healthy growth in 2016 because of increasing disposable income and growing middle-class consumers. As such, consumers are more willing to spend on non-necessities; some are even willing to trade up to more premium brands. Furthermore, drinking is also increasingly seen as part of lifestyle, a sign of social status.
