There were three main obstacles to the growth of beer sales in Georgia: the change in legislation prohibiting the consumption of alcoholic drinks in public places, implemented in 2014; currency devaluation from the end of 2014; and the increase in excise tax on 1 March 2015 (from GEL0.40 to GEL0.60 per litre). The significant increase in excise tax had the biggest impact on total volume sales, which declined by 9% in 2015 in 2015.
