Torrent Power Limited is a part of Torrent Group. The company is engaged in the generation, transmission and distribution of power. Torrent`s venture into power sector began with the acquisitions of utilities, the Surat Electricity Company and the Ahmedabad Electricity Company.

Generation

With the starting of commercial operation from SUGEN, the generation capacity of the company stood at 1647.50MW. The company has three power plants:
  1. 400MW Sabarmati TPS
    This power station comprises of four units which works on coal. Unit C is of 60MW, Unit D is of 120MW and Unit E&F are of 110MW each. To meet the fuel requirement of this station, the company ha signed a 5 year fuel supply agreement with South East Coalfield Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, in the last fiscal.
  2. 100MW Vatva CCPP
    The capacity of this combined cycle dual power plant stood at 100MW. It has two gas turbines of capacity 32.5MW each and a stream turbine of capacity 35MW.
    The two generation plants are located in Ahmedabad and in FY10, the combine PLF of these plants stood at 93.44%, Plant Availability Factor (PAF) at 95.81% and dispatch at 3,785MU.
  3. SUGEN CCPP
    This is the first mega project of the country. The plant is of capacity 1,147.50MW and consists of three units of 382.5MW each. Each units of this power plant are made of advanced class gas turbines, steam turbine, HRSG and a common generator in a single shaft configuration with a high operating efficiency. Environmental and social impact of this project is minimal due to (a) use of eco-friendly Natural Gas, (b) use of uncultivated and barren land and (c) no loss of livelihood.
Transmission & Distribution

The company has made significant progress in transmission and distribution loss reduction in FY10. The company’s T&D losses in Ahmedabad, Surat and Gandhinagar distribution circles stood at 7.62%, which is among the lowest in the country.
