Africa is the first continent in which Islam spread in 7th century approximately 1/3rd of the Muslims are residing in this continent Africa. Most of the Muslims residing in Africa are Sunnis. The presence of Islam in Africa is very complex and is not static as it is reformed by social, economic and political situations that are prevalent in countries of Africa. Islam and its complexity in Africa are described by different school of thoughts and traditions in African countries. The estimate reveals that around 45 percent of the population of Africa is Muslim. In Swahili coast,NorthAfrica and in WestAfricaIslam is present largely and in south Africa it is present with minority. Many scholars are of view that Islam is the traditional religion of Africa. In AfricaIslam has local and as well as global dimensions.Islam had great influence upon Africa in terms of language, culture and architecture.
