Vinylene carbonate (VC), with the chemical formula C3H2O3, is a colorless and transparent liquid. As a new organic film-forming additive and overcharge protection additive for lithium-ion batteries, it has good high and low temperature performance and anti-flatulence function, which can increase the capacity and cycle life of the battery.

Vinylene carbonate is widely used in power batteries, especially in lithium iron phosphate batteries and ternary lithium batteries. Since lithium iron phosphate batteries have higher requirements for the formation of SEI film, the addition ratio of VC in lithium iron phosphate batteries is also relatively high. In ternary batteries, due to the low or no addition of VC. Despite this, VC is still one of the most widely used electrolyte additives.
