Microbial-fermented inositol refers to a green manufacturing method that utilizes metabolically engineered microorganisms (such as Escherichia coli, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Pichia pastoris, or Bacillus subtilis) to convert inexpensive carbon sources such as glucose and glycerol into inositol (mainly myo-inositol) at room temperature and pressure. Compared with the traditional high-temperature acid hydrolysis of phytic acid route, it has advantages such as milder reaction conditions, less pollution, high stereoselectivity, and ease of scale-up to industrial fermenters.

Using food-grade glucose or crude glycerol as the carbon source (accounting for 45-50% of raw material costs), plus nitrogen sources (ammonia, yeast powder), inorganic salts (KH?PO?, MgSO?), and trace metals, the total raw material cost accounts for 20%; fermentation energy consumption (aeration, stirring, cooling) accounts for 15%; downstream membrane filtration, decolorization, ion exchange, concentration, and crystallization account for 15%.
