The supply chain begins with upstream raw materials, including metal salts (nitrates, chlorides, acetates), organic ligands, structure-directing agents, and high-purity solvents supplied by chemical companies; it then moves to midstream precursor synthesis, where specialty chemical manufacturers and material companies conduct solvothermal reactions in autoclaves to produce tailored precursors with specific particle size, porosity, and phase characteristics; finally, in the downstream stage, these precursors are supplied to end-use industries—such as energy storage (lithium-ion batteries), catalysis, electronics, ceramics, and environmental materials—where they are further processed into high-performance end products, making precursor quality and consistency critical for final material performance.
