Polymer Aerogel Foam is an ultralight, highly porous solid material derived from polymer networks (such as polyimide, polyurethane, phenolic, or resorcinol–formaldehyde systems) in which the liquid component of a gel is replaced with gas while preserving the three-dimensional structure, resulting in extremely low density, high surface area, and excellent thermal, acoustic, and mechanical insulation properties. Its supply chain begins with upstream petrochemical or bio-based monomers (e.g., isocyanates, epoxies, formaldehyde derivatives), followed by midstream polymerization and gelation processes to form wet gels, then advanced drying techniques such as supercritical drying or ambient pressure drying to create aerogel structures, often combined with reinforcement (fibers, foams, or composites) to improve strength and flexibility. Downstream, the material is processed into panels, blankets, or molded foam components and supplied to end-use industries including aerospace, electric vehicles, construction insulation, oil & gas pipelines, and high-performance electronics, where lightweight and high-efficiency thermal management are critical. In 2025, global Polymer Aerogel Foam output was about 12,000 tons with 16,000 tons of capacity, average prices of USD 25,000–60,000 per ton, and gross margins around 37%.
