Store cards are continuing to see a sharp decline, with 2016 seeing 5% drop in transaction value, 6% drop in transaction volume and 8% drop in card volume. This was due to retailers shifting their focus from store cards to co-branded credit cards and pre-paid cards. Almost all major issuers of store cards had stopped issuing such cards by the end of the review period.
