Debit cards registered healthy growth in 2017. Growth was primarily driven towards the end of 2016, as demonetisation was declared by the Prime Minister of India on 8 November 2016, whereby all INR500 and INR1,000 notes were declared invalid. Consumer across the country were given until 31 December to exchange all old notes with new ones.
